The GSMA, the global body that represents mobile operator associations, has recommended to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) a telco-based approach to deploying enterprise 5G networks instead of assigning direct spectrum to companies in a pivotal recommendation that can be seen to define how enterprise 5G networks will be deployed in India in the future. This recommendation follows the current regulatory debate on the most effective way to facilitate the operation of non-public 5G networks (CNPN) in India, and GSMA believes that carrier-based implementation is more effective to enable all parts of the country and efficiently utilize important spectrum resources.
In a letter written by GSMA and given to ETTelecom, assigning spectrum to enterprises on a case-by-case basis may disrupt current mobile networks, lowering speeds and quality of service to the consumers. The trade body points out that on average a 100MHz of spectrum allocated to non-public access reduces download speeds by about a quarter in the public networks highlighting the possible cost of diverted limited spectrum.
The relevance of a Telco-Led Private 5G Model
The position of GSMA emphasized that India currently has available the current public mobile networks run by players such as Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea, which can support the needs of the enterprise connectivity based on the upgraded network slicing and spectrum leasing schemes instead of reserving a normal spectrum to serve the needs of the individual enterprise. This is not merely an efficient use of the spectrum, but also the trend in a larger industry movement, in which telecom operators are no longer seen as being in the business of providing connectivity, but as enabling digital services.
Telecom operator-constructed 5G networks offer operational benefits, including built-in security, reduced management, and constant performance rates. All of them are significant to the enterprise applications of smart manufacturing, logistics automation, and real-time analytics.
How Private 5G Deployments Supported by Telcos are Helped by Telcovas
Within this changing 5G ecosystem, Telcovas can enable operators to realize the advantages of a telco-led strategy in the 5G ecosystem. Telcovas has launched its 5G and private network solutions that can help a telecom operator to provide a high-quality performance of a private 5G network with low latency and scalable architecture based on the needs of the particular industry. Using the 5G networks by Telcovas, carriers will have access to bespoke 5G networks in the areas like manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and smart campuses. These solutions enable key workloads of the enterprise – automated robotics, connected sensors, even immersive AR/VR recommending that control access to network slicing, security controls, and service orchestration. Moreover, Telcovas has a network background that enables operators to fully connect their public 5G networks with privates to give businesses the choice between hybrid connectivity that uses wider area coverage but still ensures local performance.
With countries such as India still developing policies that maintain the balance between innovation and effective resources use, the GSMA (2019) telco led private 5G model reiterates avoiding how telcos are crucial in unleashing the next chapter of digital transformation. Telcovas has all the solutions that operators need to be ready to drive this change and bring the high-performance private 5G networks that the enterprises require.
